Writing at Stump Sprouts: August 13, 14, 15, 2010

Join me for a two-day, two-night retreat at Stump Sprouts Guest Lodge in Hawley, Massachusetts. The lodge sits on a high meadow with inspiring views of the surrounding hills and the lower valley. Close at hand are organic vegetable gardens and perennial flowers, and just beyond you will find 450 acres of wild lands networked with hiking trails. Meals are prepared while you write, wander a path or nap.

For beginning writers you will be given the encouragement and safety you need to let your own voice emerge. For those writers settled into their process, this is an opportunity to hear your voice achieve a different tone or to experiment with a new aspect of craft.

We will arrive after 4:00 p.m. and begin Friday with a shared meal and then enter an evening of writing. On Saturday we will write after breakfast, share lunch, write again afterwards and take time for ourselves in the late afternoon. We will meet for dinner and write again in the evening. On Sunday we will write again after breakfast, share lunch and prepare to leave by 2:00 p.m.

The cost is $400 with shared rooms
and all meals included.

For cancellations made prior to 6 weeks before the event, we will hold the registration fee for the next retreat. The remainder of the full fee is due six weeks prior to the retreat, at which time persons on the waiting list will be notified of cancelled registrations.

Writing with Pat Schneider

Join me in writing with Pat Schneider in her home in Amherst. Pat Schneider is the founder of the workshop method known as the Amherst Writers & Artists method. She is world renowned, having led workshops and retreats for thirty years across the U.S. and in Ireland. Her book, Writing Alone and With Others, published by Oxford University Press, has generated a writing process movement that is being used in general workshops as well as in prisons, classrooms, homeless shelters and low-income housing. Pat's retreats are rich experiences where beginning writers find their voice and experienced writers develop their craft.

I will be assisting Pat during these two and a half day retreats. Each retreat will include six meals; morning, afternoon and evening writing times; and an optional walk to Emily Dickinson's grave and homestead museum.
