Workshops Based on Local Museums and Local Points of Interest.
Sign up for one, several, or all four.
We will meet at 11:00 a.m. each day, wander and write for two hours,
adjourn for a bag lunch and read to each other until 4:00.
I will provide soda water, fruit and cookies.
July 12: Smith College Art Museum
11:00--1:00 The Museum includes four floors of exhibition galleries that house the permanent collection; the Cunningham Center for the Study of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs; and changing exhibitions. Be inspired by art! Afterwards we will meet in the Friends Meeting House at 43 Center Street, Northampton.
July 13: Northampton Norwottuck Bridge
11:00--1:00 The nine-span, steel lattice truss bridge is a former crossing of the Boston and Maine Railroad over the Connecticut River connecting the towns of Northampton and Hadley, currently used for bicycle and foot traffic. Stand over the Connecticut and let river and sky fill your writing. Afterwards we will meet in the Friends Meeting House at 43 Center Street, Northampton.
July 14: Amherst College Museum of Natural History
11:00--1:00 The Museum houses over 200,000 objects spanning a dozen different types of natural history collections, such as Anthropology, Ichnology, Meteorites, Minerology, Osteology, Paleobotany, Paleontology. These objects and their stories are carefully collected and preserved. Go back in time and plumb your own natural history. Afterwards we will meet at 77 McLellan St., downtown Amherst.
July 15: Old Deerfield Historical Houses and Burial Grounds
11:00--1:00 Explore history along an original, mile-long street. The Stebbins House and Sheldon House are available for self-guided tours, and an accessible footpath winds past a working farm and through meadows to the Deerfield River. The Cooks' Garden contains plants commonly found in New England during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The Old Burying Ground offers information about the early settlers of the area, and contains unique and beautiful gravestones. Come and be filled with lives gone before. Afterwards we will meet at the Old Deerfield Inn, South Deerfield.
